Check the image
Verify the SHA-256 checksum and the GPG signature by following the instructions on the images page.
Use the NVG Install image to install the system without internet. After booting from the USB drive, open the installer in the terminal. The Live image is for trying the system and does not include the installer.
Check the image availability on the download page and back up the files you want to keep. The default installation erases the chosen disk. The installer reports the required space before continuing.

Use a tool that supports hybrid ISO images, such as dd, Ventoy, GNOME's USB image writer or Etcher. Do not extract the ISO.
Select the USB drive in the computer's boot menu. Disable Secure Boot on UEFI systems, since the images do not have a compatible signature yet.
nvginstallThe expected result is the installer's start screen in the terminal. If the command is not found, make sure you booted from the Install image.
The system included on the media is copied to the disk. Networking is optional and lets you bring your Nostr identity. Before writing, the review step shows the chosen disk and the changes. The summary below groups the decisions; the number of screens depends on the media and on the recovered profile.

The default installation erases the entire selected disk. Manual mode lets you use existing partitions. Check the disk and the changes on the review screen before confirming.
You can create a local account without a Nostr key. The installation can continue without a network or when the relay is unavailable.
Failures in the final steps are recorded as warnings once the system has already been written. The first-boot assistant brings those pending items back up.
